A FRESH PERSPECTIVE ON LIFEBOAT HOOK RELEASE SYSTEM
Singapore lifeboat manufacturer, Vanguard, sees problems when it comes to poor design and unstable systems for existing arrangements that would require potential change out.
"If these criteria are accepted, it would render at least 90 percent of all lifeboats in service out of compliance. The majority of all present-day systems use galvanised metal!
"The parameters are too restrictive and fail to address the major design point: the 'fail-to-safe' mode." A fail-to-safe arrangement would put a hook into'safe' mode in the event of any system failure.
"We would recommend that these 'poor and unstable design criteria' be restricted to hook release manufacturers that are now defunct (and therefore unable to provide training or spares), and to hook release systems which have not been independently approved and certified.
